“Slow” and “Flow” in Tourism

New Experiences in the World of Conscious Travel

While "slow" is already a well-known concept in tourism, "flow" has primarily been used in psychology until now. "Something Good Dominicana" aims to connect and establish these two concepts within the tourism industry.

But what do we precisely mean by these two concepts?

The term "slow" refers to slowing down. It involves spending more time in a specific place and dedicating enough time to truly feel and experience the moments, learn about the culture, the history of the place, and the people living there, all while fully respecting nature.  It represents a kind of connection, a reconnection.  It is a branch of tourism that changes us, shaping our thinking and our inner world through lived experiences.

The meaning of "flow" is to immerse oneself in what we are doing. It refers to an activity during which we recharge with joy and almost forget about ourselves, losing our sense of time. This is also a form of engagement and an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and nature. It allows us to build direct and genuine relationships with locals and representatives of different cultures.

How does it differ from classical tourism?

Such a journey opens entirely different dimensions before us compared to conventional mass tourism. It encompasses not only the usual active and passive forms of relaxation but so much more. It may sound like a cliché, but it is true that one of the greatest treasures in our lives is time. It is important to allocate enough quantitative and qualitative time and attention to our loved ones and ourselves. A disease of our times is the constant use of mobile devices. We feel an ongoing urge to constantly post, be online, and experience the events of our lives through a camera. According to "slow" and "flow" tourism, it is occasionally very beneficial to have a little "mobile detox."

Why is the emergence of "slow" and "flow" important in tourism?

We consider constant development and ongoing adaptation to ever-changing demands to be indispensable. We want to provide high-quality services that possess appropriate values. In today’s fast-paced and superficial world, we aim to assist in how we can reconnect with ourselves and others, and how we can discover this wonderful world around us from different perspectives.
